Abstract

The University of Nairobi AstroNight (UoN AstroNight) under the research group of Astrophysics and Space Science at the department of Physics is the largest and most active outreach initiative in Kenya run by volunteers, students and staff from the University of Nairobi, Kenya in
collaboration with Leo Sky Africa and The Kenya Space Agency. Its mandate is to promote astronomy, astrophysics and space science amongest university students, high schools, and the community, with the goal of promoting the use and application of astronomy for socio-economic development, astrotourism, and public science education. The UoN AstroNight endeuvours to achieve its goals and mandate in outreach initiatives with the general public through trainings, seminars & webinars, night sky astronomical observations and other creative
activities – all to help support innovation and societal advancement by helping to develop a diverse and competent workforce in STEM areas.
Astronomy outreach has the power to ignite people's interest in science and technology, both young and old generations. One of the most significant objectives of the International
Astronomical Union (IAU) and African Astronomical Society (AfAS) is astronomy for outreach and awareness, and thanks to the Office of Astronomy for Outreach (OAO) who is a pioneer in the field of astronomy and science communication. We will discuss here the most crucial
astronomical outreach initiatives, along with the tools, materials & resources that contributed and made this project a success in Kenyan society.
