Description
Astronomy serves as a powerful tool for promoting peace and cultural exchange. The first Space Camp in Libya, organized by the Roaya for Astronomy and Space Applications Foundation, and the collaborative initiative known as the Celestial Sands AstroCamp 2025 exemplify this potential. Libya’s Space Camp, held in May 2023 in the historic city of Cyrene, engaged 20 young participants in activities ranging from climate change discussions to exploring the philosophy of science. NOC Morocco's presentation on the cultural significance of lunar cycles further highlighted astronomy's role in fostering cross-cultural understanding.
Inspired by Palestine's AstroCamp and Libya's Space Camp, the Celestial Sands AstroCamp unites the National Outreach Coordinators (NOCs) of Morocco, Palestine, and Libya to expand astronomy outreach across North Africa. Under the pristine skies of Morocco, the initiative will bring together diverse communities, celebrating the region's rich cultural heritage and fostering unity.
This poster explores the transformative experiences and lessons learned from organizing these groundbreaking events. It highlights the impact of astronomy outreach in fostering peace and cultural exchange, igniting curiosity about space science among young people, and building bridges across communities. By showcasing the power of astronomy to inspire and connect, this poster seeks to motivate attendees to engage in similar initiatives across the continent and leverage astronomy as a tool for educational, cultural, and scientific collaboration.
