Description
The MeerKAT telescope, with its exceptional sensitivity and large field of view, has become a powerful instrument for detecting transient sources in the sky. A recent serendipitous discovery of a pulsar in continuum imaging data by (5) and (2) highlights the potential of the MeerKAT telescope for uncovering new astronomical phenomena. Transients can be defined as sources that appear and disappear in the sky or sources that change their brightness over time, varying from fractions of seconds to weeks or years. The extensive archival data from MeerKAT holds the potential to reveal numerous fascinating sources yet to be discovered. This project aims to develop imaging pipelines to search for transient sources using MeerKAT archival datasets in the image domain focusing on MeerKLASS On-The-Fly (OTF) observations.
